Bijzonder onderzoek in het Expertisecentrum voor Metabole Botaandoeningen

Het Expertisecentrum voor Metabole Botaandoeningen is een heel bijzondere samenwerking aangegaan met de ESA, de Europese ruimtevaartorganisatie.

Het DLR, het Duitse lucht- en ruimtevaartcentrum heeft namens de ESA (European Space Agency) contact gelegd met het Expertisecentrum voor Metabole Botaandoeningen, dat onder leiding staat van professor Joop van den Bergh, internist-endocrinoloog en decaan van het Leerhuis in VieCuri Medisch Centrum. Naast de bijzondere expertise over botziekten beschikt het centrum namelijk over een XtremeCTII-scanner waarvan er over de hele wereld maar enkele bestaan.

Vanuit deze samenwerking ondersteunt het Expertisecentrum de ESA bij specifieke radiologische experimenten bij astronauten voor én na hun ruimtereis naar het International ruimtestation (ISS). Het gaat om wereldwijde experimenten waarbij wetenschappers uit Frankrijk en Canada betrokken zijn. VieCuri vindt het een eer om een bijdrage te kunnen leveren aan dit wetenschappelijk ruimtevaartonderzoek.

Special research at the metabolic bone disorders center of excellence

The metabolic bone disorders centre of excellence has started a special cooperation with ESA, the European Space Agency.

On behalf of ESA, DLR (German Aerospace Centre) has invited the metabolic bone disorders centre at VieCuri Medical Centre to join this cooperation. The center of excellence is led by Professor Joop van den Bergh, Internist-Endocrinologist and dean of the Leerhuis in VieCuri. In addition to the knowledge on metabolic bone disorders, the center of excellence is equipped with an XtremeCTII scanner of which there are only few available worldwide.

Based on the established cooperation, the centre of metabolic bone disorders supports ESA in conducting specific radiological experiments with astronauts before and after their spaceflight to the International Space Station (ISS). This is a global experiment involving scientific researchers and space scientists from France and Canada. VieCuri Medical Centre is honoured to contribute to this scientific space research.
